Born at Southwick, Northants. on 22 Aug 1790. He was the son of the Rev. Joseph and Joanna Maria Smith.
Went to school at Eton.
Admitted to Clare as a pensioner on 1 May 1810 and matriculated in Michaelmas term 1810.
