Baptised on 22 August 1734 at Denton in Lincolnshire. He was the only son of Colonel William Welby of Denton and his wife Catherine.

Educated at Eton School, before being admitted to Clare College as a Fellow Commoner in 1753 and then at the Middle Temple in 1756.

Member of Parliament for Grantham from 1802 to 1806. He also served as High Sheriff of Lincolnshire from 1796 to 1797.

Born in 1910 the son of the Rev. E.E. Phillips of Markyate Vicarage in Dunstable.
He attended Dover College before being admitted to Clare on 15 January 1929 to read Natural Sciences.
He then studied at Barts Hospital in London gaining a licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellowhip of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1936.
He married and entered General Practice.

During the Second World War he volunteered for the Army but was assigned to a hospital ship.
He served in the eastern Mediterranean, in Egypt and in the North African campaign and was with the earliest troop landings in Sicily.
He was seconded to the Royal Military Hospital in York to assist in operations at various hospitals.

After the war he returned to General Practice and built up a partnership with around 10,000 patients.
He retired in 1973.

Died 12 July 1926 as the result of a mountaineering accident at San Martino di Castrozza, Italy

Educated at Dulwich College and Clare College, Cambridge.
Ordained in 1938, he began his career with a curacy at St Mary Northampton and was then rector of Ockley.
From 1949, he was initially vicar, then archdeacon before becoming the second suffragan Bishop of Dorking, Guildford, Surrey. This was a post he held from 1968 until 1986. In retirement, he continued to minister as an assistant bishop within the Guildford Diocese.
