Clare College Boat Club (CCBC) was founded in 1831. It celebrated its centenary in 1931, its 150th anniversary in 1981 and the 175 anniversary in 2006.

Strict clauses had been added to the 1551 statutes so not more than two Fellows could come from the same county of the UK (presumably to discourage cronyism). This was overturned in this 1828 revision: 'in future the society be directed by that part of the original statutes of Lady Clare which declares that no question is to be made of what nation the candidates are'.
