This series of records relates to the Freeman Foundation, which was set up following a bequest from John Freeman by his will of 1614. The Freeman scholarships started in 1618. The Foundation was based on lands at Risby, Linwood and Tetney purchased in 1622.

Printed pamphlets in the legal case between Clare College and Robert Mapletoft about the terms of the Foundation's intended preference for candidates from Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. With a draft letter and history of the Freeman Foundation in connection with an appeal to the Vice-Chancellor by Richard Rayley (admitted 1796), formerly Freeman Fellow, nd (after 1806).

Letters patent of James I granting a special licence to the Master and Fellows to purchase or receive property of yearly value of 300 pounds. Probably in connection with endowment of Freeman Foundation.
