The preface reads ‘The substance of the present paper was read at the Norwich meeting of the British Association in 1935. A typed insert has been added – ‘Delay in its publication has been occasioned by the subsequent absence of the author on expeditions in the Himalaya during 1936 and 1938’. Has manuscript corrections.
